Why "Phil The Rope"?

My passion for decorative knot tying evolved from learning basic knots when I became a scuba diver many years ago. I bought numerous books on knot tying - one of them included a section on decorative stuff, and I was hooked! The book collection has grown significantly since.

One of those afore-mentioned books was entitled "The Knot Book" by Geoffrey Budworth, and there was reference to "The International Guild of Knot Tyers (IGKT)" - I joined the IGKT, and have never looked back. The IGKT, founded in 1982, includes experts in every field of knot tying, and is a fabulous source of information and inspiration.

Back to diving ... for a number of years, a group of us chartered the dive boat "McGreggor" (a converted 60 foot trawler), skippered by Stuart Farman, every year for a week in August. Well, one year there were two "Phil's" on board, so the crew had to distinguish between us. As I spent all my spare time tying knots, "Phil The Rope" was christened!
